Mac? Windows? Which is safer??

AVG 9.0 Free prevented the malware from being ran
Malware. I love my girlfriend but I can't love Malware. Everybody hates them. We learned about them in class. They are such big threats for many computer users. I've suffered from them several times, too. I wish we didn't have any Malwares on the internet and thus we didn't have to pay for any expensive anti-malware software!

By the way, there's a computer OS that repeatedly claims "I'm strong! You're safe!". Do you know? Click this link and check it out. Yes. Mac OS! Watch the video below, an advertisement by Apple, which promotes its anti-Malware feature. I'm a Windows user. Actually, majority of computer users use Windows (statistics here!). Then Mac OS is more secure than Windows OS? Isn't it wonderful if the advertisement is really true!? Hey everyone! Throw your Windows out of a window! Now Malwares. Go extinct!  Wait... I wonder.... is it really true??

I found a web page written about Malwares threatening Mac OS (link here!). OMG! Malwares targeting on Mac do exist!
It seems Mac is safer than windows but not totally safe. Also, here's shocking quote from another page (link here!).
The general consensus among security researchers is that there's nothing about the Mac that makes it inherently more secure than Windows -- indeed, the Mac platform has been easily penetrated in the Pwn2Own hacking contest in years past. But Windows has always been a juicier target for malicious hackers because it has much larger market share than the Mac.
Therefore, conclusion about this question might be that OS is safer when less people use it because less Malwares target at it!

OK. It seems you can't totally escape from threats of Malware. I'll keep using Windows anyway. I'm a nice, Eco-friendly guy. But everyone, don't stop throwing your Windows out of a Window. Please make it less popular and I can use my computer more safely.

Question for the final exam
The first computer viruses were designed to cause damages. True or False?

As a Mac user, i always recommend other Mac users to have anti-virus software but they don't really listen to me...too bad :(

  2. Thank you. I love you too.

I am a Windows users as well and I don't know if the news that Mac is no longer more secure than Windows is good for me.

Anyway, I understand that it is good to pay attention to the threats of Malware.

  3. YOU, KEEP EXPLODING FOREVER!! LOL > I love my girlfriend ...

    SO, I got the formula...
[less number of product used --> less targeted]
    Hmm...

WELL, I'm not an eco-friendly dude, but I'll still keep using my Windows coz I'm a lazy crap. lol

  4. I've always heard that Windows is attacked more because it is used so much more widely. As an avid Mac user, I used to believe that the Apple computers were safe from such attacks / intrusions.

I still haven't used any anti-virus software. Perhaps this is living too dangerously. Maybe I need to take the matter more seriously.

One more point, please remember that WB 4 and 5 are supposed to include a question about the topic for the final exam. Can you amend your post to include one, please?

Nice to hear from a real Mac user!
That's too bad. If Mac get huge popularity in the future, they might suffer I guess.

Yeees I think so. It's important to pay attention! It seems windows users are more careful and aware of these threats according to grizzly_bear. Mac users! Watch out!

  8. Maybe this is just in the US, but I think since Mac users have increased in the past few years (they run the college special in the US where you get a new Mac and an iPod, but I think this year it was a $100 app store card and that seems to be incredibly popular), malware targeting them would increase as well.

But OS-specific malware isn't the only thing users have to watch out for. When it comes to sites such as facebook & twitter, malware can impact anyone and everyone, regardless of their operating system.

Hopefully in the future users will be more careful about what they click on & install anti-virus programs, regardless of their operating system!
